Why Is Our Brand Called 8 Elephants? The Story Behind the Name

It Started with a Sister

The story of 8 Elephants by Molly doesn't begin in a lab or a boardroom. It begins with Anna, my younger sister, and a simple desire to help her feel better.

Anna has struggled with sensory issues her entire life. Taking a daily bath is part of her routine, a ritual that helps her decompress and feel grounded. But she's also extremely sensitive to additives, synthetic fragrances, and the kinds of ingredients that fill most conventional bath products. Finding something that worked for her...really worked, without irritating her skin or overwhelming her senses, was nearly impossible.

So I started making it myself.

Small Batches, Big Intentions

I began formulating mineral salt blends in small batches, researching whole-plant ingredients and essential oils that could help ease Anna's joint pain while being gentle enough for her sensitive system. No synthetic fragrances. No unnecessary fillers. Just clean, thoughtfully chosen ingredients that did what they were supposed to do.

What started as something I made for my sister slowly became something I couldn't stop thinking about. I became obsessed with the idea of creating a product that not only felt good, but did good. For the person using it, and for the world around them.

The Elephant Herd

When it came time to name the brand, I found myself drawn to something I'd learned about elephants: a herd starts with a core group of eight (give or take an elephant :) ). And within that herd, they care deeply and intentionally for one another. They protect each other. They grieve together. They shape the world around them consciously, collectively, powerfully.

That concept stopped me in my tracks. It felt like exactly what I wanted this brand to be about — community, care, and the idea that small, intentional actions can have an outsized impact on the world around you.

8 Elephants. It felt right immediately.

What the Name Means for Everything We Make

The elephant herd isn't just a name — it's a framework for how we operate. Every product we make is held to the same standard: it should nourish the person using it, and it should contribute to something larger than itself.

That's why every blend is formulated with natural, cruelty-free ingredients. It's why our packaging is designed to minimize waste — including fully compostable pouches for our Shower Salts. It's why we think about the full lifecycle of every product, from ingredient sourcing to what happens after the last scoop is used.

We call it being part of a circular economy — where what you buy supports regenerative practices, not extractive ones. Every blend you purchase is a small but significant step in that direction.

We've come a long way from those first small batches made for my sister. Our line now includes mineral bath salts, shower salts, magnesium mists, and recovery bundles, all built on the same foundation: clean ingredients, sustainable packaging, and formulas that actually work.
